Plasma DR™ Technology
Edge Medical has pioneered revolutionary technology to produce flat panel X-ray detectors for digital radiography, enabling a dramatic price/performance breakthrough - the barrier that up to now has slowed widespread adoption of flat-panel digital radiography.
Plasma DR™ detectors are based on a proprietary technology, which incorporates an innovative microplasma line scanner, a direct conversion amorphous selenium sensor and low-noise readout ASICs into a flat panel detector. The detector is the product of hundreds of man-years of development by an Israel-based R&D team.
How do Plasma DR™ detectors work?
Plasma DR™ detectors have an operating cycle including three main steps during which incident X-rays are converted into electric charge and readout to form a digital image:
READY - The amorphous selenium-based direct conversion sensor is electrically reset, sensitized and readied for exposure following a sweep of the microplasma line scanner across the sensor. |
 |
EXPOSE - Incident X-ray photons are converted into electron-hole pairs. A transverse electric field within the sensor separates the electrons and holes and creates a charge image precisely corresponding to the X-ray image. The charge image is stored in the sensor until readout. |
| READOUT - The microplasma line scanner sweeps across the sensor in less than 2 seconds causing line-by-line addressing and readout of the charge image from an array of data lines associated with the sensor and connected to readout ASICs. |
